Turn Back, the band's third studio album is an attempt to return to the classic sextet structure and it was a more consistent, more powerful album with a sharper edge. The more experimental sound of Turn Back reflected the growth of the band. Bobby Kimball's growing proficiency was evident in the vocals of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature. David Paich's keyboard work was as well more refined, more precise, and less derivative on earlier efforts.
After touring to promote the album, the band recorded a live concert in Amsterdam which was released as a two-CD set called Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records.
